It is heartening how a lot of crime has been solved with the use of CCTV cameras. Surveillance cameras in homes and public places have led to the capture of criminals. In one home, the surveillance camera showed how a baby sitter was punishing a baby because it was crying. In a bakery, a thief who stole money from the counter drawer was caught soon after he committed the crime. In the streets, records from CCTV cameras help in deciding who is guilty in traffic accidents.

It appears that the use of these cameras is a big help in curtailing crime as well as monitoring traffic. It may result in loss of privacy as some opponents would point out. If we look at the bigger picture, I say we will profit more from surveillance cameras than suffer because of it. If it is any encouragement, the fact that advances in the models of surveillance cameras being made available commercially points to the fact that people welcome it. Let us install more closed circuit cameras and lower the crime rate.
