These are times when climate, as we used to know it, has changed into something we do not clearly understand. There are times when we are handed tons of water when we don’t need it; there are times when we suffer from lack of it. Typhoons, earthquakes and tsunamis seem to be working together to make our lives miserable. The unfortunate thing is that there is not much we can do about it. The best thing that we can do is prepare for it.
Wherever we are it is always good to be ready with survival tools. This is a collection of basic tools and supplies packaged to be ready in case of an emergency. Survival tools are best kept at home, in the car or in the office. Survival kits vary in content but some of the basic supplies are those that will keep people warm, provide shelter, and meet first aid needs together with food and water. Basic tools such as a Swiss army knife and flashlights with batteries should be included in the package.

You can never be too careful with your valuables especially if you have a small home. Hide your cash or other important things in a diversion safe instead of in an obvious place where a thief would likely to look first. When criminals break into a home, they avoid spending more time than they have to. So they just grab what they can and get out.
Stash your valuables in unassuming places such as a can of soda that is weighted to feel like a real can full of liquid. There is a good chance that thieves won’t look twice at your pantry, or not at all. They would go straight to locked drawers where they think the goods worth stealing are kept.

Avoid being hit by a speeding vehicle because the driver failed to see you while you are performing your job. Always practice safety flag traffic. Wear a high visibility safety vest with reflective stripes that will flash light back to others. This is especially important at night.
Reflective safety vests come in various designs and sizes. They come with high contrast colors which make for a great flagger’s vest. Buy one with extra pockets so you can have somewhere to keep important stuff in like your flashlight or mobile phone.

Draw attention to yourself when your safety is being threatened. Always be prepared to defend yourself by having the tools you need. Having personal safety gadgets can raise your level of self-confidence and personal security. Avoid becoming one of the statistics found on many crime reports!
Remain aware of your surroundings all the time. Know what your options are for maintaining your personal safety. Have in your possession and give your family members personal safety alarms, electronic pocket whistles, pepper spray, etc. Train yourselves to be comfortable in using them so that you won’t hesitate when the right time comes.

Always make sure you and your vehicle companion will have enough tools to survive in case of anything. Keep a 2 person survival kit in your car and another at home. Each kit can already support 2 people for 3 days. It includes enough emergency food, water, shelter, first aid, light, and other necessary supplies to tide you over after an untoward incidence.
For instance, if your car suddenly breaks down on a lonely stretch of road and you’d have to walk a long way to get to safety, a 2 person survival kit will help you and your partner to survive along the way. This is especially critical when rescue doesn’t seem likely or if it may take a long time coming. You would have to be self-sufficient before you can get yourself to safety.

We will need one of these kits at one time or another in our lives. An emergency kit is a box or bag that contains items that are needed in case of an accident or natural disaster. An emergency kit will contain different things, depending on where it will be used. Many think that an emergency kit is something you have to buy from the store. The truth is you can make your own kit. Start with a box or bag and fill it up with things that you think will be useful.
More that composing the right things for an emergency kit, equally important is having a consensus among family members about what to do in case of emergency. Make sure that each member knows where to find the emergency kit. Determine a meeting place outside the home in case of a disaster; determine also the best way to escape from a house struck by disaster. Take the time to practice your escape route. Last but not least, consider the special needs of children, seniors and pets.
